At the northern end of 256th, past the Jail and set tucked in next to the cedar mill is The Log Cabin, a hole in the wall restaurant that’s been operating for 15 years and serves, by far, THE best french fries in Maple Ridge, if not the best in the Lower Mainland.
It’s the perfect place to snuggle up in on a rainy day. Don’t let the drive scare you, it’s really not that far from town. Regardless, you won’t be dissapointed that you made the trip either- this place has a 5 star rating on Urban Spoon.
It’s a quirky little place, with a thrown together decor. Vinyl tablecloths are held down my mini galvanized buckets holding coffee creamer, and all around is strange little sale items including handmade cat toys. It’s like your grandma’s cabin, and depending on your grandma, the food may be just as good. The menu is pretty simple and straight forward. Breakfast served daily till 11 am weekdays and all day on Sunday offers omellettes and skillet breakfasts as well as a Log Cabin Waffle. Of course, this trip I ate with the lunch crowd, but I’m planning a return for brunch.
It’s noon when I sit down for my meal, and the weekday lunch crowd is made up of workers, firefighters and few others who may or may not be craving the Log Cabin’s famous perogies It’s simple comfort food meets pub fare- home made burgers and, classic sandwiches- even a Salsibury Sandwich is on the menu. They’ve got a standard list of appetizers- nothing out of the ordinary. You don’t need pizazz here. The food speaks for itself. Whatever you decide to order up, make sure you get the french fries. Real potatoes, cut not to thick and fried crispy with the skin on. Heaven.
The Log Cabin features a monthly special, and for the Month of May it’s burgers on Thursday. You can also stuff yourself with Prime Rib on the first Friday and Saturday of the month.
